Household Chores for Children and Teenagers

Sometimes you need to have kids involved in chores, and some just need to be done by a teenager. However, doing these household chores doesn’t mean you have to shell out a lot of money, it just means that you will be better equipped to manage your household.

Why spend money on doing household chores when you can just teach your child or teen to do them? They will save money on household costs and they will have more time for things they enjoy. Here are 5 ideas for your child to help with chores:

1. Empty the Trash

One of the simplest chores you can assign to a child or teen is to empty the trash. Trash is one of the things you will have to buy because you can’t get it for free. If you’re lucky you have a trash chute which can save you a lot of money, but if not, there are some tricks you can try to get the job done.

A great way to teach your children and teens about money management is by giving them the responsibility to empty the trash, which will give them a first-hand experience of saving money.

2. Clean the Bathroom

One of the most important home chores you can teach a child or teen is how to clean the bathroom. Children often don’t have any idea how to keep a bathroom clean, and doing this chore for them teaches them how to be responsible for their surroundings.

If you do not have a toilet that does the job for you (meaning it cleans itself), then you will need to teach your child or teen how to clean it yourself. You will need to teach them how to hold the tank open while they are washing it and help them find the best cleaning product for the job.

3. Clean the Dishwasher

A dishwasher is an appliance you probably didn’t think of teaching your child or teen how to clean. However, to teach them how to clean it they will need to be taught how to work it first. Most dishwashers these days have a small dishwasher that can be pulled out of the cabinet. This is the one that should be cleaned.

Most dishes should be cleaned by hand, so if you don’t have a dishwasher it’s a good idea to teach your child or teen how to clean it by doing it by hand. Once they’ve learned how to use it, the dishwasher should go into the cupboard to be cleaned. The sink can be cleaned by hand if you want to, but it’s probably a good idea to do it all by hand.

4. Sweep the Floor

It’s no surprise that most kids love to play on the floor, so it’s a good idea to teach your child or teen how to sweep the floor and vacuum the carpet. This isn’t necessarily something you’ll need to pay for, but you’ll need to buy a broom, vacuum, and possibly dust mites (they will attract them to the floor), which can be a real pest if you don’t properly clean the floor.

As with most chores, you’ll need to put a system in place. You can begin by setting an area of the floor for your child or teen to clean. You can begin by setting a schedule to do it every Saturday or Wednesday. Make sure your child or teen doesn’t have to do this chore every week though, especially if you live in a cold climate.

5. Mop the Floor

After you have taught your child or teen how to clean the floor, it’s time to teach them how to clean the floor. Before doing this chore, you’ll need to buy cleaning supplies like mop and scrubbing solutions. You’ll also need to prepare your floors.

You’ll need to clean the floor first, which means putting down sheets that will hold the mop and the floor. Make sure you have a bucket of water that you can easily get to if you need to clean the floor. This bucket will be used to get the mop and the floor wet.

There are many choices for children to help with chores you can assign to your teens. No matter how old they are, you should teach them how to work all of the appliances and help them clean the bathroom. It will make them feel more responsible for their surroundings and they will learn about saving money and working for what they want.
